The show follows a group of paranormal investigators from a well known organization/society known as TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society), whose founding members, Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson are also plumbers by day, working for Roto-Rooter in New England.

The show's/TAPS format goes as follows: The team either gets contacted or are drawn to investigate a location. They then go to that location and gather information about the location's history and past claims of hauntings, and try to debunk and/or recreate most/all of the claims, they also record all types of situations in all types of ways, from thermal imaging, EMF detection, still pictures, to EVP recordings.
